Lightning

If I stand next to a tall object, will I be safe from lightning?

People get this idea from the concept that lightning rods on top of buildings are designed to attract lightning bolts and protect the building from damage. Actually, standing next to a tall object like a telephone pole or tree is no guarantee you won’t be hit by the lightning stroke. Lightning will often hit the ground right next to a taller object.
