Whom did Roosevelt defeat in the 1904 election to win his first full term?

Roosevelt defeated Alton B. Parker, the former chief justice of the New York Court of Appeals (the state’s highest court), to win the presidency. He captured 336 electoral votes to only 140 for Parker. The former jurist, who had resigned his position from the bench after receiving the Democratic nomination, returned to the private practice of law after losing the election.
