How did Roosevelt become president?

Vice President Roosevelt became president after Leon Csolgosz assassinated President William McKinley. He followed in the footsteps of John Tyler, Millard Fillmore, Andrew Johnson, and Chester A. Arthur as vice presidents who became president following the untimely death of the sitting president. At age forty-two, Theodore Roosevelt became the youngest person up to that time to become president.
