What do radio astronomers hear?

Radio astronomers detect what sounds like noise, but is actually signals from atoms, molecules, and ions in stars, galaxies, and particles in interstellar and intergalactic space. In order to detect these signals, radio telescopes are used. These are shaped like large satellite dishes, and are able to detect wavelengths between 1 millimeter and 1 kilometer.
