Unanswered QuestionsBeyond the Proton, Neutron, and Electron |
Are there anti-quarks like there are antineutrinos and anti-electrons (positrons)? |
Yes, there are anti-up quarks with charge -2/3 and anti-down quarks with charge 1/3. An antiproton is composed of two anti-up and one anti-down quarks. Anti-quarks have color charges that are the complementary colors to red, green, and blue: cyan (anti-red), magneta (anti-green), and yellow (anti-blue).
An up (or down) quark and an anti-up (or anti-down) quark will annihilate each other, resulting in energy being released.
