Middle Eastern Mythologies

The Arabs and Islam

Who were the Arabs?

The Arabs were Semitic peoples of the Arabian Peninsula whose language was closely related to those of other Semites in the Middle East, including the Hebrews. Like that of the other Semites, Arab culture, traced back as early as 1200 B.C.E., would have been centered on kinship, tribes, and clans. An indication of contact between Arabs and Israelites is indicated by the story of the visit of the queen of Saba (or Sheba) to King Solomon in Jerusalem early in the first millennium B.C.E.
