What was the makeup of the Classical Greek pantheon?

The Olympian gods were the pantheon of the Classical period. Whereas the first generation of gods described by Hesiod tended to be personifications of aspects of nature— Uranos as Sky, Gaia as Earth—the Olympians were depicted as essentially an elite family with infinite power. Under the clear leadership of the high god Zeus, each family member had a responsibility for a geographical area of the universe or for an element of the psycho-emotional life of humans.
