East Asian Mythology: China and Japan

Buddhism, Shamanism, and Chinese Mythology

What role did shamanism play in Chinese mythology?

Shamans are people who have the ability to cure because of their ability to communicate with the spirit world. In the process of curing ceremonies, shamans often tell or sing the creation myth of their culture. Shamans, or medicine people, in both Chinese and certain Native North American cultures, memorize and thus preserve the ancient myths.
