The Christian story emerges from the prophecies of the Hebrew tradition, the Jewish hope for a Messiah, and the narratives of the life of the man Jesus, a Jew whose whole life was spent in the Middle East. It is also true, however, that Christianity was deeply affected by interpretations and emphases that can be traced to church leaders and popular culture, both in the Middle East and elsewhere.
