Like an algebraic expression, it is possible to expand logarithms, which is a way of “picking apart” an expression. The following lists two examples of expanding a logarithmic expression:

• To expand log₂(3x) = log₂(3) + log₂(x)
• To expand log₂(12/x) = log₂(12) - log₂(x)
