Who was Charles Robert Darwin?

English naturalist Charles Robert Darwin (1809–1882) was the first to propose the theory of natural selection—an idea that revolutionized all aspects of natural science. Darwin was born into a family of physicians and planned to follow his father and grandfather in that profession. Unable to stand the sight of blood, he studied divinity at Cambridge and received a degree from the university in 1830.
