What are homosporous and heterosporous plants? |
Certain plants are considered to be homosporous and heterosporous plants. Homo-sporous plants produce only one type of spore; heterosporous plants produce or have two types of spores (microspores and megaspores) that develop into the male gametophyte and female gametophyte respectively. (The gametophyte is the phase that produces the sexual organs of a plant; for more about gametophytes, see above.)
