How many species of plants live on Earth?

The exact number of plant species on Earth is hard to determine—mainly because so many plants have yet to be found and identified, such as in the deep forests of the Amazon River Basin. But overall, many scientists believe about 300,000 to 315,000 species exist, with the great majority (estimated at about 260,000–290,000) being seed plants.
