Sure, Solomon was wise, but going on that kind of journey was no small undertaking. Sheba was at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. Jerusalem was 1200 miles to the north. Though the Bible does not say so, it is possible that the queen had other reasons for visiting Solomon. The land of Sheba was a major power in sea trade. It is possible that the Queen of Sheba felt threatened by Solomon’s increasing seafaring power. So her trip to Jerusalem could be construed as a treaty-making mission.
