God, of course. The prophets made a big production of crying and wailing to petition Baal, but they got no response. Elijah taunted the prophets, “Shout louder!… Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened” (NIV, I Kings 18:27) Elijah encouraged bystanders to soak his bull with water. That way, he could not be accused of trickery. He prayed to God, and God caused the bull to go up in flame. After that, Elijah ran into the wilderness because King Ahab wanted to kill him.
