Elijah is known for speaking according to God’s word. He warned the Israelites time and time again not to follow other gods and the practices of other religions. By and large, the people ignored him. God gave Elijah the authority to stop it from raining, with the idea that drought would make the Israelites turn back to God. The drought did not have its intended effect. The people continued in their idolatrous ways.
