Solomon told a servant to divide the baby in two with a sword. That way, each woman would have half of the child. The woman who brought the case before Solomon offered to give the baby to the other woman rather than see the baby cut in two. The other woman said it was fine with her if the baby was cut in two—if she could not have the baby, no one would. Solomon believed the first woman, and gave her son back to her.
