Presumably he was. Still, he became discouraged with life on the run. He begged God to let him die. In despair, Elijah fell asleep under a broom tree. He awoke when an angel touched him on the shoulder and said, “Get up and eat.” (NIV, I Kings 19:5) Elijah ate the bread and drank the water that was set before him. He slept again, and was awakened in the same manner again. This time the angel said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” (NIV, I Kings 19:7) Elijah received enough strength from that meal to sustain him for forty days and forty nights.
