How did David and Bathsheba meet?

David was on the roof of his palace when he saw Bathsheba across the way on the roof of her house. She was bathing after her period, as prescribed by Leviticus. David sent a messenger to find out who she was. The messenger came back and reported that the woman was Bathsheba, wife of Uriah the Hittite. Then “David sent messengers to get her, and she came to him, and he lay with her.” (NRSV, II Samuel 11:4) Later, Bathsheba realized she was pregnant, and told David. The Bible does not say what Bathsheba thought about all of this. Did she have sex with David willingly, or did he force her?
