What are the Classical Greek Orders of Architecture? |
Greek architects followed fairly strict conventions when designing temples in an attempt to produce a balanced and unified look, an aesthetic valued by the Greeks. The three main “orders,” or patterns of temple-building design are: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. Referred to as the “Classical Greek Orders of Architecture,” these systems of proportion and style made a profound impact on the history of architecture and continue to be incorporated into building design to this day.
