Who were the Etruscans?

The Etruscan Civilization flourished in Italy for nearly five hundred years, until the Etruscans were conquered by the Romans in 509 B.C.E. They controlled a fertile region known as Etruria, now called Tuscany. The art and culture of the ancient Etruscans were certainly influenced by the Ancient Greeks, in fact, the Etruscans adopted a number of Greek gods into their pantheon. But, they also maintained a unique tradition of their own, and went on to influence the ancient Romans who absorbed their culture.
