Who is Mona Hatoum?

Mona Hatoum (1952-) is a Palestinian video and installation artist who was raised in Lebanon and works primarily in Britain. Hatoum’s conceptual installations and performance pieces often communicate themes of exile and authority. Examples of her work include the minimalist Socle du Monde (Base of the World) (1992–1993), a large black cube that contrasts a metallic interior structure with a softer, more organic exterior embellishment.
