Neoclassical architecture of the eighteenth century was a powerful reaction against the highly decorative styles of rococo architecture, and emphasized logic, symmetry, and geometry in its design. Neoclassical architecture was particularly popular in the design of public buildings, and at least in Britain, private country homes.
