What is Romanesque art?

Although the term itself was not used until the nineteenth century, “Romanesque” means “Roman-like” and is used to describe eleventh through twelfth century medieval art and architecture featuring Roman characteristics. The Romanesque period saw a revival in monumental architecture, sculpture, and wall painting.
