What are characteristics of Yuan painting?

The Yuan Dynasty began with the rule of Khubilai Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan, who ruled until 1294. Mongolian power remained in China until 1368 and the effect of Mongolian culture on Chinese art continues to be debated. Yuan painters preferred to work on paper rather than silk, and their style is characterized by solid, hard-edged forms.
