What is pneumothorax?

Pneumothorax refers to the presence of air in the pleural cavity. It occurs when air leaks from the lungs and gets between the lung and the chest wall. It is also known as a collapsed lung and can result from a penetrating chest injury or changes in pressure during diving, flying, or stretching.
