Sound production in the larynx is called phonation. It is one component of speech production that also requires articulation, or the modification of those sounds by other anatomical structures. These structures include the pharynx, oral cavity, nasal cavity, and paranasal sinuses. This combination determines the particular and distinctive sound of an individual’s voice.
