How does kidney function change with age?

Of all the major internal organs, the kidneys show significant deterioration with age. The capacity of the kidneys to filter waste decreases by 50 percent by age 80. Humans, however, have four times the necessary reserve of kidney tissue, so the kidneys can still adequately perform their job and maintain normal function even at age 80.
