ABA and HummingBird Digital Media use Papertrell platform to power Ebook sales

The American Booksellers Association and e-book provider Hummingbird Digital Media have partnered to enable independent bookstore to finally start selling e-books! The storefront of over 600k ebooks and audiobooks and the technology stack for this exciting initiative is powered by the Papertrell platform.

Individual bookstores have lost massive business to the online e-book stores due to their ineffectiveness of capturing the audience’s attention in the present digital world. Beside missing a large chunk of revenue, they face the threat of losing their faithful customers to the online businesses who are selling print books as well. This initiative by HummingBird comes at a time when it is becoming  necessary to help the independent bookstores regain a fair share of the e-book market.

Indie bookstore customers now have an additional option through which they can purchase e-books while supporting their local independent bookstore. Papertrell enables Hummingbird to integrate with ABA’s IndieCommerce and IndieLite programs by automatically supplying a “Buy the e-book” button next to the “Buy the Book” button on the bookstore’s title pages.

With the Indie Commerce integration, an e-book purchase option appears on the Indie Commerce product page for titles available in that format; Hummingbird supplies the shopping cart and fulfillment via the Papertrell platform, and the company collects and remits sales tax in all relevant states. Hummingbird will also provide a link back from Papertrell to the referring store for purchase of the print book. The solution also provides booksellers with a branded storefront and a reader app giving customers a fantastic reading experience..
